Radioactive Nickel

So, reading the comics today. The Boondocks brings up news no one else does, which is why it's on my reading list. Apparently, the Department of Energy has decided to release hundreds of thousands of tons of surface-contaminated copper and steel from the Oak Ridge, TN uranium enrichment plant. The nickel project was resurrected -- seriously, this is the plan?

Now, with all deference to fears and frets, perhaps these are exaggerated? Should we care? How high is the likely radioactive exposure compared to background levels? Hell, I'm radioactively decaying as I write.

But thanks for alerting us to the reintroduction of boondocks. I will be sure to write my local paper to ask for it back.

Sorry! That's from January 24th of 2006. Aaron McGruder has not returned. It's not clear where he is. There's some noise that this fall will see new episodes of the television show, but I think that's still just a rumor.
